In The Field: Nick Frendo

I decided to support Movember after opening up about my struggle with depression. I also decided to use Sommet and my riding to help raise awareness and promote Movember’s vital work and research and to support others who struggle like I do.

Globally 3 out of 4 suicides are men. Each year, more than 500,000 men die by suicide around the world. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year old men globally. It is the single biggest cause of death for men under the age of 45 in the U.K.

Stats provided by Movember.

In June 2019 I rode 2800 km and climbed 48,000 metres over the Pyrenees, Alps and Dolomites and to date raised over £9000.00 in my first AFGO ride. In September 2019 I’m continuing to try and raise more money and awareness by riding as many passes in the Dolomites as I can in a day, another AFGO.

It’s not all about riding my bike and taking on elevation based challenges. I use my social media to talk openly about my struggles and I’ve written on my JOURNAL to try and encourage others to speak out and seek help.

In 2020 I’m aiming to continue this work by talking more and coming up with more rides, events and talks. AFGO 2020 will again be a three week challenge but this time you’ll have the opportunity to join me. The final we’ll we’ll be riding some of Europe’s most iconic climbs. The Furka, San Gottard and Nufenen in Switzerland, The Stelvio, Gavia and Mortirolo and then three days based in Corvara in The Dolomites tackling some of the best climbs the region has to offer. Stunning routes, beautiful accommodation and supported by an expert team of experienced guides from Sommet Cycling. Details to follow shortly but you can register your interest HERE. I expect the dates to be the last week of June or first week in July.

If you’d like to support my efforts you can donate here on my JUST GIVING PAGE or drop me an email nick@sommet.cc you you’d like to help in another way by supporting my rides or if you’d be interested in hearing more about my story.
